WADI BANI KHALID: The exhilarating mountain hike event, 'Challenge and Discover,' concluded on Saturday, marking another milestone in the executive programme for Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital 2024. Organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), the event celebrated adventure tourism while emphasising security, safety, and the exploration of Oman’s stunning natural trails.

Participants embarked on a breathtaking journey that began near the water ponds in Maqal village, Wadi Bani Khalid, situated at an altitude of 640 metres. The trail offered a progressive climb, reaching the highest peak overlooking Wadi Bani Khalid, spanning a distance of 4 to 5 kilometres. The journey continued on moderate mountain paths, leading to the camping point in Halut village, located at 2,050 metres above sea level. The first leg covered an impressive 20 kilometres.

On the second day, hikers ventured onward from Halut village to the Niyabat of Tiwi in the Wilayat of Sur, traversing a challenging yet rewarding 30 kilometres.

This event underscored the Ministry’s dedication to promoting adventure tourism and preserving ancient mountain trails while ensuring the highest safety standards. By spotlighting Oman’s diverse geography, geological marvels, and cultural richness, the initiative encourages the growth of specialised adventure tourism companies. It also fosters awareness of Oman as a premier destination for adventure enthusiasts.
