MUSCAT: Director Yousef al Balushi has recently finished the filming of the Omani series Al Waqid, produced by Blue Cave for Art and Media Production and written by Said Amer.

The series brings together stars from across the Gulf and Arab region including Mohammed Nour, Talib Mohammed, Amina Abdul Rasoul and Fakhriya Khamis.

The series sheds light on an important historical period in the Omani history and reflects the struggle between good and evil while highlighting the life of travel and sea and the suffering of families and the challenges they faced at that time. Going through a series of tragedies and challenges, actor Mohammed Nour embodied the good side whereas the evil side was played by actor Talib Mohammed. The filming took place in various locations in the Sultanate of Oman. The series is anticipated to be broadcast in the month of Ramadhan.

Director Yousef al Balushi said the filming started in June and was carried out in a number of governorates with a focus on tourist and heritage locations. He noted that the series is set in the 1950s and 1970s and the events revolve around a power struggle between two brothers.

In an exciting dramatic setting, one of the brothers decides to take his family on a sea trip but the ship sinks due to a storm and the family splits apart with his father, mother, son and daughter each going his/her own way. Later, he found out that his father, mother, son and daughter ended up in a different country and exciting and surprising events ensued.

The director explained that the series is an attempt to present a new image of the Omani drama by featuring the Omani heritage and presenting it in a contemporary way. Al Balushi said: “Going back to the past is very important as the audience yearns for heritage and what they see in the current world evokes nostalgia and this is why we wanted to present a work that reflects popular heritage which is widely followed in the Gulf region."
