Apple is reportedly working on a new smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID for unlocking doors, the Apple Hub reported.

The doorbell camera could be released by the end of next year. The doorbell camera will work just like your iPhone, the door automatically unlocks when you look at the camera.

The device will be equipped with Apple’s Secure Enclave chip, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman

Apple is set to challenge Amazon’s Ring with its smart doorbell. The smart doorbell will work with the existing third-party smart locks that are compatible with HomeKit and also to offer a complete system on day one, the company may partner with a specific smart lock company, said Gurman.

Gurman states that the camera is also expected to use a “Proxima” wireless chip.

The smart doorbell is just one of the products that Apple plans to bring to the smart home market. The tech giant plans to launch a smart home camera and new smart home displays.
