Muscat, Dec 18
The Ministry of Social Development, represented by the Department of Civil Society Institutions Development, recently hosted an introductory session on the "Civil Society Governance Guide" in collaboration with the Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability. The event was held under the auspices of Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development.
More than 350 participants, including Ministry employees, representatives of association boards, community clubs and their branches, attended the working session. The main goal was to familiarise attendees with the contents of the Civil Society Governance Guide and analyse its fundamental standards. The aim was to help civil society organisations improve their internal systems and enhance their administrative and financial efficiency.
During a speech by Sayyid Hamed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Executive Director of the Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability, he emphasised the importance of the session in organising and improving the operations of these associations. He highlighted the guide's focus on governance principles that promote effective and transparent management, integrity, credibility and performance improvement.
Mahran al Maashani from the Department of Civil Society Institutions Development stressed that the session was part of an effort to organise and enhance the social and charitable role of civil society institutions. This aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to govern civil society institutions alongside governmental and private entities to serve the nation's interests. The guide aims to develop the management approach of civil society associations, support their institutional character and ensure their members can contribute effectively to social development.
