MUSCAT, DEC 18
Al Nasr and Bahla played to a 1-1 draw in their postponed Round 1 match of Group B in the Oman Football Association Cup. The game, which took place at the Saada Sports Complex Stadium, showcased balanced performances from both teams.
Bahla started with confidence and defensive caution, focusing on counterattacks. Their approach paid off in the 25th minute when Mustafa al Raqeeshi scored the opening goal. He capitalised on a quick counterattack, receiving a precise cross inside the penalty area and heading it brilliantly past Al Nasr’s goalkeeper Rashad Al Dhahin.
Despite Al Nasr’s repeated attempts to equalise, Bahla's defence remained solid, with their goalkeeper making several crucial saves. The first half ended with Bahla leading 1-0.
In the second half, Al Nasr came out determined to change the game's course. With the introduction of Marwan Taib at the start of the half, the team showed significant improvement. Al Nasr gained control of the midfield and maintained continuous pressure on Bahla's defence. In the 52nd minute, Al Nasr was awarded a penalty after Marwan was fouled inside the box. Marwan successfully converted the penalty, levelling the score.
Following the equaliser, Al Nasr intensified their attacks, exploiting the flanks and relying on their players' speed. Meanwhile, Bahla focused on tight defensive organisation and sporadic counterattacks. One such counter nearly resulted in a goal in the 75th minute, but Rashad Al Dhahin made a remarkable save to deny Bahla’s forward.
The final minutes of the match were filled with excitement as Al Nasr pushed for a winner, making offensive substitutions. However, Bahla’s defence held firm until the final whistle, concluding the game with a 1-1 draw.
Bahla increased their tally to 8 points, securing second place in Group B of the tournament, while Al Nasr raised their total to 7 points, placing them in third. Sur continues to lead the group with 10 points, while Oman Club remains at the bottom with just 2 points.
It is worth noting that the Oman Football Association Cup is a preparatory tournament in which top league clubs participate during the suspension of local competitions, without their international players.
