The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) — Muscat, in collaboration with ACCA Middle East and Nama Supply Company, hosted the groundbreaking event "Accounting for Tomorrow: Sustainability and Employability in a Changed World."


Dr Bassam Khalil Hamdan Tabash, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administrative and Financial Affairs, inaugurated the event, highlighting the importance of connecting students with leading employers to bridge the gap between education and industry demands. His remarks underscored the university's strategic commitment to preparing students for emerging job market trends shaped by sustainability.


Dr Aziza bint Abdullah Humaid al Qamshiouyah, Assistant Dean of the College of Economics and Business Administration, emphasised the university’s focus on sustainability-driven education, while Dr Faiza bint Salim Alawadthani, Head of Business Administration, welcomed participants, setting the stage for insightful discussions. The event reinforced the university’s dedication to integrating sustainability into its academic programmes to produce well-rounded graduates.


Ali al Maki, CFO of Nama Supply Company, delivered the keynote address, sharing how sustainability has been integrated into corporate strategies, reinforcing the evolving role of finance professionals in promoting sustainable business practices. His speech provided actionable insights for students on how financial expertise can drive sustainability goals.


A dynamic panel, moderated by Ahmad Bilal Mansoor of ACCA Middle East, explored how to cultivate a sustainability mindset among students, bridging academic knowledge with industry expectations. Industry leaders shared best practices, offering students a practical understanding of how sustainability aligns with corporate success.


The Inter-UTAS University Challenge saw teams from various branches competing: Champion: Ibri branch; Second Place: Muscat branch; Third Place: Salalah branch.


The event strengthened the academia-industry bond, equipping students with essential skills for a rapidly evolving job market while emphasising sustainability’s role in business success. UTAS-Muscat reaffirmed its commitment to fostering future-ready professionals driven by innovation and sustainability, positioning its graduates for leadership roles in tomorrow’s global economy.
