SUR: The Environment Authority (EA) has launched a comprehensive initiative to update the Turtle Reserve Management Plan in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, a project expected to run until December 12.
Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Governor of Al Sharqiyah South, inaugurated the event, which was attended by environmental experts, local officials and representatives from conservation groups. The updated plan aims to align with Oman's Vision 2040 and national development strategies, focusing on preserving the habitats of green turtles, which are globally recognised as an endangered species.
The initiative includes plans to enhance resource management, ensure sustainable conservation efforts and strengthen collaborations with international environmental organisations. The reserve’s beaches host thousands of nesting turtles annually, making it a critical site for marine biodiversity. — ONA
