The Annual Student Art Show (ASAS) 2024 in Dubai spotlighted over 1,000 budding artists from the Gulf, with three students from Oman - Haniya Eira Khan, Isabelle Eapen, and Yusra Adil Shaik - emerging as standout talents. Their groundbreaking works, merging technology, art, and sustainability, captivated audiences at the felicitation ceremony held at Waterfront Mall, Shatti Al Qurum.
Isabelle Eapen, a standard 9th-grade student at ABA Oman International School, dazzled with her digital artwork ‘Synergy of Growth and Vision’. This vibrant piece combined sunflowers’ vitality with molecular patterns, symbolising the delicate balance between nature and human ingenuity. Her work offered a compelling perspective on how art can intertwine natural beauty with scientific innovation.
Haniya Eira Khan showcased Mandala-inspired art that fused traditional designs with modern digital techniques. Incorporating themes like Leonardo da Vinci’s plane design, green energy, and the critical role of honeybees in ecology, her work underscored the connection between creativity and sustainability, emphasising art’s potential to inspire ecological consciousness.
Yusra Adil Shaik presented a powerful mixed-media piece, exemplifying her unique artistic vision. Together with her peers, Yusra demonstrated the potential of integrating digital media with traditional methods, reflecting a growing trend of innovation in the art world.

The students credited their creative growth to the mentorship of Dr Hafsa Banu, a practicing dentist renowned for her nail and string art. Dr Hafsa, also a champion of therapeutic art for special needs students, emphasised, “Art nurtures creativity and offers children a platform to express emotions they may struggle to communicate.” Her guidance empowered these young talents to unlock their potential.
It was a proud moment for both parents and children as their work was once again showcased in Oman, with certificates awarded for their efforts. A special award was presented to Ishan Sanjay from Mobile Souq and Ameera Kazi for their exceptional creative talent. Mrs Haseena Banu, dedicated an additional award in honour of her sister Hafiza Banu, who was a special needs child, to recognise the remarkable talent of a child with special needs.
ASAS 2024 encouraged participants to address global challenges such as sustainability, environmental awareness, and social responsibility through their art. Dr Hafsa, a panelist during the event, praised the Omani students for blending traditional artistry with digital innovation, setting a new benchmark for creativity.
A noteworthy achievement came from Pranavi Sridharan, a Class 12 student from Indian School Muscat, who secured second place in the prestigious Global Award category. “Competing alongside seasoned artists was a dream come true,” Pranavi said, crediting her mentors for helping her realise her vision.
Haniya and Yusra also attended masterclasses and workshops, enhancing their understanding of sustainable art. Haniya, a returning participant, described the sessions as both enriching and enjoyable, while Yusra expressed gratitude for the hands-on learning experience, calling it deeply rewarding.
The exhibition showcased 30 outstanding works from schools like Indian School Muscat, ABA, and Sri Lankan School, highlighting the Gulf region’s remarkable artistic talent. Dr Hafsa led engaging discussions on balancing artistic passion with professional aspirations, reinforcing art’s therapeutic and developmental role. The event concluded with a grand celebration.
Renowned art curator and Finnish resident artist in Oman, Matti Sirvio, the guest of honour, presented trophies and certificates to the winners. Mohammad Issa Al Rawahy further honoured students and their mentors, recognising the pivotal role of teachers in nurturing creative talent.
ASAS 2024 reaffirmed art’s transformative power. The Omani students’ innovative works, blending creativity and technology, set a high standard for future generations, inspiring young artists to explore new forms of expression and contribute to a sustainable and inclusive future.
Shiba Khan and Farah Khan, the visionary founders of Funun Arts, believe that art and innovation are deeply intertwined, united by creativity, originality, and the drive to push boundaries. Both artists and innovators harness imagination and skill to produce impactful creations.

The Dubai event, brought together over 1,000 students representing more than 50 nationalities, and showcased a spectacular array of artwork. It was supported by 35 Global Mentors, 15 Youth Ambassadors, and over 50 Youth Volunteers.
Focusing on the theme ‘Art and Innovation,’ the event catered to students aged 5 to 25. This compelling theme was meticulously chosen to align with the UAE’s future-focused vision for 2031 and global innovation goals. The primary objective was to encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, express their creativity, and find their voice through art.
The inauguration was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Abdul Jabbar Weiss, Sultana Kazim, Ahmed Al Awadh, Halima Al Seigh, Ahmed Al Hosni, Harjyot Oberoi Bohra, Laila Rahhal Al Atfani, Abdullah Mohammad Al Maainah, Bejinder Singh, and other distinguished guests from across the UAE.
