SOHAR Port and Freezone has announced the inauguration of Allied Ondock Container Services LLC, alongside the signing of a $2.6 million expansion agreement. This development enhances the port’s container depot capabilities to meet the rising demand for advanced logistics solutions in the region.
The initial container depot spans three hectares, with the contract signed in June 2023. The newly inked expansion will add another two hectares, further bolstering operational efficiency and capacity. Allied Ondock, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Allied Container Group, specialises in container depot services, including repair, inspection, and cleaning. The additional plot will increase warehousing capacity, enabling seamless operations for over 20 shipping lines calling weekly at SOHAR Port.
Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of SOHAR Port, highlighted the strategic importance of the project: “The inauguration of Allied Ondock’s operations marks a transformative step for Oman’s economy. By enhancing our logistics capabilities, we are not only connecting businesses to global markets but also positioning Oman as a key player in international trade. This partnership will drive economic diversification, support Oman’s Vision 2040, and benefit the wider community.”
Allied Ondock’s integration of advanced technologies will streamline container handling, reducing turnaround times and elevating service quality. Lim Kian Chin, Owner of Allied Ondock, expressed his optimism: “By introducing our advanced solutions to SOHAR Port, we aim to enhance the port’s competitiveness and provide a superior edge to its tenants. This partnership empowers shipping lines to optimize operations and improve efficiency.”
SOHAR Port’s container volumes grew by 21% in Q3 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, driven by innovations such as a new land-bridge solution. This collaboration with Allied Ondock aligns with the port’s mission to enhance its global logistics network and establish itself as a premier logistics hub in the Middle East.
By leveraging its strategic location and Allied Ondock’s global expertise, SOHAR Port aims to deliver world-class logistics solutions, strengthening its role as a competitive and integrated logistics hub in the region.
