Oman to face Italy as Socca World Cup 2024 begins today

MUSCAT, Nov 28


Oman team will commence their campaign in the Socca World Cup 2024 as they will take on Italy in the opening match of Group A. The match will start at 8 pm (Oman time) at the Sports Makers Stadium at Oman Automobile Association. The six-a-side football event’s opening ceremony will be held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Nadir bin Al Julanda al Said in presence of officials and dignitaries.


Eight matches will take place on Friday starting from morning session as Pakistan will face Tahiti in Group E in the opener. The match will kick off at 9 am. Tunisia will play against South Africa in Group H while Libya will begin their matches against Serbia in Group B which also will feature another clash between Bulgaria and Germany. Kuwait will meet Iraq and Egypt will have a tight clash against Brazil and the concluding match will be between Sudan and England.


The highly anticipated event will feature attendance of 40 teams from around the world and the prestigious event will run until December 7.


The hosts, Oman, will play in Group A alongside teams from America, Italy, Canada and Qatar. Group B comprises teams from Germany, Bulgaria, Georgia, Libya and Serbia, while Group C features Greece, Belgium, Cyprus, Kuwait and Iraq. Brazil lead Group D, along with Egypt, Ireland, Colombia and Iran.


Group E consists of Poland, France, Turkiye, Pakistan and Haiti, while Group F features Mexico, Latvia, Albania, Peru and Australia. Group G includes Kazakhstan, England, Romania, Uruguay and Sudan and Group H features Croatia, Hungary, Argentina, Tunisia and South Africa.


All the teams arrived to Muscat and they began their final warm-up sessions ahead of the tournament kick off on Friday.


The referees, on the other side, are ready to officiate the matches as more than 10 international umpires will officiate the games.
