Over 500 women from across the country gathered at the International Hockey Stadium in Al Amerat to create a new chapter in the art and culture scene by choreographing the largest-ever dance form, Thiruvathira.

Thiruvathira is a traditional Indian form of classical dance with unique, identical steps performed to music played aloud.

The audience, packed to capacity, cheered with joy as the mega Thiruvathira was staged by women dressed in identical traditional Indian attire. Teams from different parts of Oman participated in the event, organised under the leadership of Muscat Malayalees and under the guidance of RLV Babu. Babu trained 30 teachers from various organizations in Oman online.

Thiruvathira groups from places like Sur, Ibra, Barka, Ghala, Athaiba, Al Ghubra, Al Khuwair and Ruwi were trained for just 18 days before the show at the hockey ground. People from far-off places had already gathered at the stadium well before the event began. As the groups entered the stadium, they were welcomed by the audience, who were in for a spectacular show.

The teams, arranged meticulously in groups and lines, performed song after song, much to the delight of the audience.

Thani al Wahaibi, a board member of Oman Hockey Association, and TK Vijayan of Global Sourcing, honoured RLV Babu for his dedicated effort in teaching music and dance to such a large group and coordinating a fantastic show that satisfied the audience.
