Muscat: The Ministry of Information has affirmed that Royal Decree (No 58/2024), which enacts the new Media Law, reflects His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s commitment to empowering Oman’s media and journalists to fulfill their essential and constructive role in the Sultanate of Oman.

In a press statement, His Excellency Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, highlighted that the law aligns with Oman Vision 2040, responding to changes and advancements in media and the impact of modern digital technologies. The law reinforces the mission of Oman’s media by upholding principles of objectivity, accuracy, full neutrality, and freedom of opinion and expression, in accordance with the country’s foundational laws and with a strong emphasis on the values of citizenship and national pride.

His Excellency also noted that the law safeguards journalists’ rights, organizes the media profession, sets standards for media activities, and outlines mechanisms for engaging with artistic works and publications.

Expressing confidence in the law’s impact, His Excellency added that it will propel Omani media to new heights, marking the beginning of a new chapter that will support its national and cultural mission, aligned with Oman’s aspirations and vision for a renewed renaissance.
