Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman’s charter aviation sector has experienced a significant surge this season, with over 74,000 passengers visiting the Sultanate on charter flights, a 15% increase from last season.
According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), the air charter services of the tourism season 2023/2024 marks the most successful season in recent years, reflecting the country’s growing appeal as a premier travel destination.
The ministry said in an online statement the economic returns from this sector have exceeded RO23 million, underscoring its impact on the nation’s tourism revenue
The ministry attributed this growth to strategic initiatives that have successfully attracted tourists from various global markets. The highest influx came from Poland (31%), followed by the Czech Republic (25%), Slovakia (13%), Italy (12%), Germany (7%), Romania (6%), Hungary (4%), and Armenia (2%).
It may be noted that Polish tourists represented the largest proportion of arrivals.
The ministry has outlined several opportunities aimed at sustaining and enhancing this growth. These include opening up to new global markets, offering an integrated range of tourism services, and diversifying experiences across Oman, including the activation of Duqm and Suhar.
With further development of Oman’s tourism services and infrastructure, the Sultanate is poised to attract an even broader range of visitors in the coming years, mainly from Spain and Russia.
