MUSCAT: The Oman chapter of 'Motta Global,' an international organisation now active in over 20 countries, hosted its inaugural meetup at Darsait Beach on Friday. The gathering was not focused on the challenges of baldness, but rather on embracing it with pride and inspiring others to do the same. Their mission extends to supporting individuals facing body shaming, fostering a sense of community, and promoting empowerment and positivity.

As part of the ‘Stop Body Shaming’ campaign, several bald individuals in Oman gathered for the first time, creating a valuable opportunity for like-minded people to connect and share their experiences. Although the initial meetup included just nine members, Bipin Konni, the Oman coordinator of Motta Global, is hopeful that more participants will join the organisation soon.

Bipin, a prominent food vlogger in Oman, noted that “the chapter not only addresses the cause of bald heads but also tackles various other body-shaming issues like obesity, skin tone, and more. The campaign for stopping body shaming concluded at Kozhikode beach on Sunday, while the Oman chapter plans to network and draw up their next steps.”

Other members of the Oman chapter include Bipin B Varghese from Majid Al Futtaim, Shiju Kadavil from Al Naba, Santhosh from IMD Wadi Kabir, Bibindas Puthenveettile, Kiran Kollannur from Golden Arena United, Al Maabella, C K Suvish from Mustafa Sultan, Vinay from Zubair Automotive, Sumesh Hariharan from Texel Energy Services, Al Ghubra, and Vinod from Badr Al Sama.

The Oman initiative follows a unique gathering that took place in August 2024 at Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur, Kerala. Participants, dressed in blue jeans and white shirts, all shared a distinctive feature — bald heads. This event led to the creation of ‘Motta Global,’ the world’s first international organisation for bald individuals. ‘Motta,’ which means bald in Malayalam, captures the spirit of this movement.

Additionally, the Motta Global UAE Chapter, a global Malayalee association of shaved heads, also launched its body-shaming awareness campaign in Dubai. Similar groups across the world held placards and shared photos on social media, uniting against body shaming and promoting acceptance.
