Rasheed calls up new faces for Kuwait, Jordan games

MUSCAT: The newly appointed head coach of the national football team, Rasheed Jaber, announced on Thursday the Red Warriors official list for the forthcoming clashes against Kuwait and Jordan on October 10 and 15 respectively at AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26. The unveiled squad featured mixture of new names including Ahmed al Riyami (Al Khabourah), Mulham al Sunaidi (Al Nasr), Mohammed Ramadan (Seeb) and Yazeed al Mashani (Al Nasr). The list featured return of Salah al Yahyaei who was absent in the previous matches of the qualifiers.


The 60-year-old coach, who replaced Jaroslav Silhavy from Czech Republic, was busy couple of days in observing the players at the top-tier league and he was accompanied by assistant coach Yaqoob al Sabahi. Coach Rasheed will begin his career officially at the green field on Friday as the camp will begin in Muscat and will run until October 15.

The revealed squad included 28 members and three goalies were called up namely Ibrahim al Mukhaini, Fayez al Rushedi and Ibrahim al Rajhi. The defending line-up featured Mohammed al Musallami, Ahmed al Khamisi, Mohammed Ramadan, Khalid al Buraiki, Ghanim al Habashi, Ali al Busaidi, Ahmed al Kaabi, Amjad al Harthi, Abdulaziz al Shamousi and Mulham al Sunaidi.


Midfielder Harib al Saadi will lead the middle line accompanied by Abdullah Fawaz, Arshad al Alawi, Sultan al Marzouqi, Jameel al Yahmadi, Yazeed al Mashani, Abdulrahman al Mushefri, Zaher al Aghbari and Ahmed al Riyami. The attacking line will be represented by Nasser al Rawahi, Salah al Yahyaei, Omar al Maliki, Mohsin al Ghassani, Essam al Subhi and Hatim al Roushdi.


Oman’s forthcoming game will be against Kuwait on October 10 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and the match will kick off at 8 pm. Then the team will travel to Amman city for an away clash against Jordan at Amman International Stadium. The Red Warriors will play two more matches in November as they will host Palestine on November 14 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex while they will take on Iraq on November 19 at the same venue.


Then, the Asian qualifiers will stop for a period of four months as the Red Warriors will resume their games against South Korea in Seoul on March 20 and five days later the team will travel to Kuwait for a tight clash on March 25 in Kuwait City. The concluding two matches will be on June 5 and 10 as the national team will face Jordan in Muscat and Palestine in Doha respectively.
