

MUSCAT: Oman padel team is underway in its historic participation at the in the FIP World Padel Championships Asia-Africa Qualifiers which is underway in Kuwait City. The qualifiers began on Sunday and will run until September 27 as Oman’s men team was drawn in a tough group with Iran, Japan, and China in Group C while Oman women’s team was clubbed alongside with United Arab Emirates and Lebanon teams in Group B. The final stage of the lead-up to the FIP World Padel Championships is scheduled to take place in Doha city of Qatar from October 28 to November 2.
In the men’s day one result, Oman suffered a 3-0 loss against Iran. Oman team was represented by Abdullah al Barwani, Sami Habib, Younis al Rawahi, Muneer al Rawahi, Khalid al Nabhani and Abdulaziz al Balushi. Japan made strong start in the same group as they blanked China by 3-0. In Group A, Egypt managed to take the lead following their crucial 3-0 win against Lebanon. The UAE managed to beat Philippines in Group B while Senegal and Australia secured essential victories in Group D after defeating Thailand and Saudi Arabia.
On the following day, Japan defeated Oman 3-0 while Iran outclassed China in the same group.
In the women’s team results, Oman registered a strong start as they managed to earn a crucial 3-0 win over Lebanon. Oman were represented by Sara al Balushi, Eathar al Balushi, Leena al Zadjali, Aisha al Suliemani, Mariam al Balushi and Ruaa al Suwaid. The Omani women's team will play a key game on Tuesday against the UAE.
The six days of qualifiers in Kuwait is being organised by the International Padel Federation in collaboration with the Kuwait Padel Federation. At stake is one spot in the men’s tournament of the World Championships and two in the women’s finals. The group matches will conclude on Tuesday while the quarterfinals featuring the top two teams from each group will be played on Wednesday. Then it will be followed by the semifinals on Thursday while the winners and champions will be decided on Friday.
