MUSCAT: Tamkeen, the Research and Innovation Lab on Sunday embarked on a programme to boost the central role of research and innovation in domestic development.

The programme, which will last until October 3, will focus on analysing the current performance of the national research and innovation system. It also seeks to identify key challenges and propose solutions to address them. Tamkeen will act in partnership with all stakeholders to achieve integration and common goals.

The programme, which stems from the approaches of 'Oman Vision 2040', aspires to place the Sultanate of Oman among the top twenty countries in the Global Innovation Index.

The programme calls for efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable national development through knowledge, research and innovation.

Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in her speech, said that the research and innovation lab aim to set up a national system in Oman and consolidate its role in economic and social development.

The Global Innovation Index is an important source of information for decision-makers. It enables them to measure economic competitiveness in comparison with leading international models.
