Suhar: A comprehensive Risk and Emergency Management Programme is being implemented across educational institutions in North Al Batinah. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Education and in collaboration with the Vocational Training Institute for Teachers in Muscat, the programme is designed to enhance the readiness of schools in addressing emergencies and natural disasters.

As extreme weather events and school-related challenges increase, the programme aims to equip educational leaders with the necessary skills to effectively manage such situations.

Azza Al Saidi, a trainer in the programme, emphasized the importance of disaster awareness within the education sector. She stated, “Raising awareness about risk management in schools has become a critical necessity. Through practical exercises and training, we aim to equip school leadership and personnel with strategies to manage crises, ensuring the safety of all under the ‘Safety First’ principle.”

Targeting 468 school leaders, including principals, vice principals, and supervisors, the programme is organized by the Central Committee for Emergency Management in Schools in partnership with the Vocational Training Institute. Training sessions are held at various centers, including the North Al Batinah Training Center and the Liwa Innovation and Science Center.

The programme covers both theoretical knowledge and practical applications, focusing on building a culture of safety in schools. The initiative aims to develop leadership capabilities, ensure effective communication during emergencies, and align with the national emergency management strategy. Participants are encouraged to continuously train staff and students and regularly evaluate emergency plans for maximum effectiveness.

Abdullah Almakmari, a participant, expressed the programme’s impact, stating, “This training plays a vital role in developing leadership skills for risk management, contributing to our national responsibility in handling crises and emergencies efficiently.”
