SALALAH, SEPT 15

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) is set to launch the highly anticipated ‘Marhaba Dhofar’ event today, welcoming key players from the tourism industry in Oman and Saudi Arabia.

The multi-day event aims to strengthen ties between the two nations' tourism sectors, with the participation of 40 Saudi tourism companies and 13 leading media figures from prominent Saudi institutions.

The itinerary for the Saudi delegation includes immersive field trips to Dhofar’s top tourist destinations, such as the serene beaches of Salalah, the lush green mountains, and the governorate’s rich heritage and archaeological sites. These visits are designed to showcase Oman’s deep historical and cultural roots, offering participants a first-hand experience of Oman’s unique tourism appeal.

‘Marhaba Dhofar’ is a goal to boost tourism collaboration between Oman and Saudi Arabia, while promoting the region’s distinct seasonal highlights, such as the “Sarb” season, which draws visitors with its cool climate and natural beauty.

The event also seeks to position Dhofar as a prime destination for winter tourism in the Gulf.

The programme will not only involve sightseeing but will also feature discussion panels and business-to-business meetings. These sessions will provide an opportunity for Omani and Saudi tourism companies to engage in dialogue, exchange expertise, and explore potential partnerships aimed at enhancing the tourism sector in both nations.

Haitham Tabook, Head of Public Relations and Media at the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar, highlighted the significance of this event.

“Marhaba Dhofar serves as a pivotal platform to solidify tourism cooperation between Oman and Saudi Arabia. It is a unique opportunity to highlight Dhofar’s tourism appeal, particularly during the ‘Sarb’ season, known for its breathtaking landscapes and moderate weather,” Tabook remarked. He also underscored the event’s role in stimulating the tourism economy and building stronger business ties between the two countries.

Ahmed bin Salim al Mahri, CEO of Gloria Tours, expressed his pride in hosting the Saudi delegation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. “Our aim is to give our Saudi guests a comprehensive insight into the tourism landscape of Dhofar,” Al Mahri said. “We have carefully curated an itinerary that will allow them to experience not just the natural beauty of the region, but also its rich cultural heritage and unique traditions.”

With its focus on fostering tourism cooperation and showcasing Dhofar’s diverse attractions, the ‘Marhaba Dhofar’ event promises to be a key step in enhancing Oman’s profile as a premier destination for Gulf tourists, while strengthening bonds between Oman and Saudi Arabia in the process.
