HIMA: Al Wusta Governorate saw a notable rise in investment and commercial activity during the first half of 2024, driven by its natural resources and improved infrastructure, which have attracted investment in key sectors like industry, logistics, and fish processing.


One of the region’s highlights is the Special Economic Zone in Duqm, which offers significant incentives for industrial and commercial ventures. Abdoun bin Mohammed al Harsosi, Director of the Department of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion in Al Wusta, confirmed that industrial licence applications grew by 116% during the first half of 2024, with 534 applications compared to 247 in the same period last year.


Al Harsosi also noted that 53 foreign companies registered in Al Wusta during this period, with a combined capital of RO 8.056 million, similar to the 52 companies registered in the first half of 2023. By mid-2024, the total number of foreign investment records reached 742, with a capital of RO 2.779 billion.


Efforts to bolster Al Wusta’s economic sector continue in collaboration with various stakeholders, resulting in 230 new commercial records, bringing the total to 7,342. Additionally, 557 certificates of origin were issued in the first half of 2024, slightly down from 600 in the same period last year. — ONA
