SUR: The 'Sur Marine Sports Festival,' organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of South Al Sharqiyah and various governmental and private entities, concluded on Saturday with great fanfare.

The closing ceremony, graced by Dr Rashid bin Mohammed Al Ghailani, Member of the State Council, featured traditional boat swimming and rowing races. In the swimming competition for the youth category (ages 10-15), Mohammed bin Salem Al Alawi claimed first place, followed by Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Arimi in second, and Aman Amin in third.

In the adult category (ages 16 and above), Nasser bin Saif Al Kindi secured first place, with Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Ghailani and Khaled bin Khalfan Al Jahdhami taking second and third places, respectively.

Throughout the festival, attendees enjoyed an array of sports events, including races, sailing experiences, the Oman Sailing Championship, and a variety of entertainment activities. These events underscored the competitive tourism appeal of the Wilayat of Sur.

A dedicated fan zone, featuring a product exhibition and other engaging activities, also played a significant role in fostering local community participation.

The festival spotlighted numerous races, notably parasailing, swimming, and traditional boat rowing, showcasing the rich maritime heritage of the region.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism aimed to emphasize the tourism significance of the Wilayat of Sur and the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, drawing on Sur's historical role as a hub of cultural and civilisational exchange.

By offering unique tourism experiences to visitors and enhancing local community involvement in organising and participating in the festival's many events, the 'Sur Marine Sports Festival' contributed meaningfully to the executive program of Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital 2024. The festival took place from August 18 to 28, 2024, on Mocha Beach. - ONA
