The Ministry of Social Development organised a professional development programme for rehabilitation on Sunday. The five-day programme will see workers in rehabilitation centres for people with disabilities and relevant authorities taking part.
The programme aims to enhance the capabilities of workers in the field of rehabilitation of people with disabilities, by developing their skills and raising their level of performance, in addition to keeping pace with the latest developments.
The programme also aims to improve the quality of rehabilitation services provided by informing participants of the latest methods and techniques and enhancing their skills and knowledge.
Hala bint Musa Al Wahaibi, Director, Department of People with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Development, in her opening speech spoke about the importance of the programme, which comes within the ministry's strategy to empower workers in the field of disability.
She pointed out that the programme is launched within the framework of Ministerial Resolution No 188/2024, which sets the dates for rehabilitation and evaluation programmes for government and private rehabilitation centres and has adopted the Professional Development Programme for workers since 2014.
Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, National Officer for Physiotherapy Services, Ministry of Health, thanked the Ministry of Social Development for inviting her to participate in the programme. She noted that the initiative represents an important step towards enhancing the capabilities of workers in the medical and social rehabilitation sectors.
Al Mahrouqi stressed the importance of cooperation between the two ministries in raising performance standards and exchanging expertise, expressing her aspiration for a sustainable future partnership that serves the public interest.
The programme includes several specialised lectures in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, including lecture on neurodevelopmental therapy 'Bobath', which focuses on improving functional skills for cases of cerebral palsy, and on 'Montessori' method, which aims to develop rehabilitation programmes that suit various disabilities.
This is in addition to lectures related to training on swallowing difficulties and oral rehabilitation.
The programme also includes specialised sessions on managing group rehabilitation sessions and speech disorders of neurological origin, in addition to applications of the sensory integration theory to treat sensory problems that affect overall performance.
