Muscat: The activities of the Third Research Skills Forum, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation in partnership with the Arab Open University, are ongoing and set to conclude on August 22.
The forum, targeting Omani postgraduate students, consists of training sessions and practical workshops covering various topics related to research skills for qualitative research.
The forum provides a valuable opportunity for graduate students to acquire the necessary research skills for success in their scientific careers. It also facilitates the exchange of experiences and knowledge among graduate students from different universities.
The forum aims to offer researchers and graduate students a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts of qualitative research, including its philosophy, principles, and techniques.
It helps them develop critical and analytical thinking skills essential for formulating research questions, studying hypotheses, and analyzing data. Additionally, it encourages creative thinking in data collection and analysis methods, as well as effective communication of research results for the benefit of human knowledge.
The third edition of the forum focuses on qualitative research, which offers a profound insight into social and human phenomena. It emphasizes understanding the meaning and interpretation of individual and collective experiences. Qualitative researchers are passionate about utilizing various methods to gather data, such as observation, participation, and listening to human stories and experiences.
A participant in the workshops mentioned that they were not just educational sessions but interactive platforms that allowed participants to ask questions and learn from others' experiences. This enhances researchers' ability to apply their newfound knowledge in future research endeavors. Moreover, it fosters networking and communication among researchers from different educational institutions, paving the way for research collaborations and partnerships that advance scientific research.
The commendable efforts of the Arab Open University, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, in organizing this forum deserve recognition. They have successfully created a platform that brings together researchers and experts in qualitative research, contributing to the development of a cohesive research community capable of staying abreast of global scientific advancements.
The forum comprises training sessions and practical courses covering various topics related to research skills for qualitative research. In the first week, the forum addressed issues such as scientific research problems, information collection, literature review in qualitative research, and practical exercises on formulating qualitative research problems, collecting information, reviewing literature, hypotheses, and variables in qualitative research design, population, and sample selection.
