India’s 78th Independence Day celebrated

Muscat: The Embassy of India in Muscat celebrated the 78th Independence Day with the participation of more than 1000 people, including members of the Indian and Omani communities.


Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, commenced the celebrations by paying a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a global icon of peace and non-violence.


The ambassador raised the National Flag of India, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem.


Ambassador Amit Narang read out excerpts from the speech delivered on the eve of Independence Day by President of India Droupadi Murmu, emphasizing the progress India has made over the past decades and the vision for a prosperous future.

The ambassador acknowledged the presence of some of the victims and the families of those affected by the recent shooting incident in Al Wadi Al Kabir. He expressed his condolences to the family of Basha Jan Ali Hussain who unfortunately lost his life and applauded the courage and fortitude of those who went through unbearable physical and mental trauma in this incident.


The ambassador also paid rich tributes to ROP brave heart Youssef Al Nadabi who made the supreme sacrifice of his life to save others and appreciated the efforts by Omani authorities in dealing with the incident and protecting the lives of innocent civilians.


The ambassador said India stands with Oman against all forms of violence.


Ambassador Amit Narang presided as the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebration at Indian School Mabela.
