SALALAH: The 'Exploring Dhofar from the Sky' activities kick-started on Saturday in Dhofar Governorate.
Organised by the Oman Air Sports Committee in collaboration with Dhofar Municipality, the event concludes on August 20.
The event stems from the committee’s keenness to place aerial sports as a component of public life, enhance their role in promoting tourism in the governorate, increase public awareness of environmental and sustainability issues as well as introduce the natural diversity and cultural richness of Dhofar Governorate.
Ahmed bin Zaher al Alawi, Chairman of the Oman Air Sports Committee, said that the event will be accompanied by training and educational workshops on the basics of aerial and drone photography and scientific and practical experiments related to climate and environment to raise awareness of zero carbon neutrality.
He said that visitors could experience paragliding and enjoy aerial shows.
The event will employ artificial intelligence technologies to count visitors using drones and the participants will also enjoy observing the movement of the sun from Al Hawqain Astronomical Observatory via live broadcast technology as well as make international calls with a number of satellite and international stations via wireless broadcast devices. — ONA
