MUSCAT: The Social Protection Fund (SPF) has announced that employees can now start submitting compensation requests for maternity and paternity leave, including allowances and contributions, for all eligible cases.

Compensation for the months of July and August will be distributed by the end of August 2024.

The government's focus on electronic governance, along with SPF's commitment to transparency and exceptional service, has led to the introduction of SPF's electronic services. These services, accessible through the SPF portal at www.spf.gov.om, aim to streamline the process for employers seeking various compensations under the maternity leave insurance branch.

Employers can now manage authorised personnel and submit requests for maternity and paternity leave allowances through the portal. Maternity leave is available for both biological and foster mothers, with compensation provided for wages and contributions. Similarly, paternity leave, for biological and foster fathers, follows the same application process and compensation structure.

In cases where a mother passes away during childbirth or maternity leave, the father can apply for maternity leave through the paternity leave process. Additionally, compensation for childcare leave, which will be activated later, is provided for contributions only. For terminated workers entitled to employment security allowance, maternity leave disbursement will be handled through the employment security system, although this specific service is not covered in the manual.

SPF's electronic services are designed to ensure efficient and transparent management of leave entitlements, aligning with the broader goals of electronic governance and enhanced social protection.

Moving forward, employers will receive compensation at the end of each month, with requests related to previous months processed beforehand.
