Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that it has activated the Latent Tuberculosis (TB) Screening as part of medical fitness certification for residency applications.
According to experts, people with latent TB (LTB) do not have any symptoms and cannot spread TB. If they do not get treatment, however, they may develop active TB disease in the future, spread the disease to others, and feel quite ill. People with active TB disease can be treated and cured if they get medical help.
The main ways to diagnose LTBI are by placing a tuberculin skin test (TST) on the forearm or by getting a TB blood test, in addition to obtaining a chest radiograph (x-ray) if either one of these tests is positive
MOH Guidelines and Screening Procedures:
A blood sample is collected in accredited private health clinics for screening.
If the result is positive:
You will receive a text message to undergo a chest X-ray. Proceed to one of the accredited private centers.
Proceed to the government Medical Fitness Centre in your area.
A physician will evaluate your condition, and the center will contact you to initiate treatment.
Treatment for latent tuberculosis is free of charge at the Ministry of Health.
