

Muscat: The number of people getting married in the Sultanate of Oman has been on the decline over the last couple of years, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The country saw a drop in the number of registered marriages, which dropped to 14,716 in 2023 from 15,400 in 2022 and 19,294 in 2021.
In Muscat, the number of registered marriages were 3,565, compared to 3,162 in 2022 and 3,980 in 2021.
In other governorates, Dhofar recorded 1,622 marriages, Al Dhakilyah 1,725, North al Batinah 2,542, South al Batinah 1,790, South al Sharqiyah 1,077 and North al Sharqiyah 1,009, among others
Divorces
At the same time, the Sultanate saw a drop in the number of divorce cases in 2023,
The number of divorces cases went down to 3,828 in 2023 from 4,160 in 2022 and 3,837 in 2021.
At the same time, the number of divorces in the capital, Muscat, increased to 1,008 in 2023, compared to 977 in 2022 and 853 in 2021.
In other governorates, 633 divorces cases were recorded in Dhofar, 360 in Al Dhakiliyah, 665 in North al Batinah, 325 in South al Batinah, 241 in South al Sharqiyah and 251 in North al Sharqiyah.
