SALALAH: The inaugural Arab Forum for Scouts and Guides commenced on Saturday in Jabal Ashur plain, Dhofar Governorate, under the banner 'Loyal Scouting... in the Land of Giving.'
Organised by the General Directorate of Scouts and Guides at the Ministry of Education, the forum will run until August 6, featuring 42 participants from 16 Arab countries.
The event's agenda includes a variety of activities, including visits to the archaeological, historical, and tourist sites that abound in Dhofar Governorate.
A key highlight is the exploration and adventure trip themed ‘Discover Dhofar,’ aimed at showcasing the natural and cultural treasures of the region.
The Ministry of Education, through its General Directorate of Scouts and Guides, is committed to representing Oman’s Scouts and Guides on Gulf, Arab, and international platforms.
There has been an unwavering support from ministry officials, who are dedicated to projecting Oman’s positive image by leveraging the skills and expertise of the pioneers of the Omani Scouts and Guides movement.
The forum seeks to highlight the contributions of these pioneers in fostering intergenerational communication and promoting tourism in Oman. It also underscores the importance of their role in enhancing the scouting and guiding movement within the Sultanate, with an emphasis on achieving synergy with the Arab Union of Scouts and Guides.
The initiative emerged from the Ministry of Education's steps to activate the role of an elite group of pioneers within the Omani scouting and guiding community. This effort is embodied in the activities of the Pioneers Committee, which plays a crucial role in developing and sustaining the movement.
Many of these pioneers have recently volunteered to represent Oman in various Gulf and Arab forums dedicated to scouts and guides. Their involvement in the Arab Union of Scouts and Guides has further strengthened the movement, culminating in the decision to hold this Arab Forum to foster integration and cooperation at the regional level. — ONA
