Muscat: The second edition of the ‘Summer of Talents’ programme, organised by the Cultural Library, concluded on Tuesday.

The event, held in collaboration with the Oman Observer newspaper and the Ministry of Information’s Media Training Centre, spanned three days and involved twelve enthusiastic children.

On the first day, trainer Zainab al Hashimi led various interactive workshops. These included an acquaintance game, memory-strengthening exercises and a practical test to enhance middle-brain activity by recognising colours and shapes.

Children also learned the basics of public speaking and presentation through "The Story of the Forest Kingdom". They engaged with the "Ain" platform, solved puzzles and watched short clips from children’s programmes. The day also featured segments on good citizenship, patriotism and an introduction to simplified graphic design.

The second day saw the children visiting television studios. Yaqoub al Balushi conducted a workshop, followed by a reading session. The children listened to "Bakhsha," a popular Omani story, and explored themes of saving and investing through the story "Adam and the Ornamental Fish." They also learned about the dangers of electronic games and participated in the Qumrah programme.

On the final day, Maitha al Mundhiri from the "Let's Read Library" presented a workshop on the story of Palestine. Throughout the programme, participants were provided with meals, drinks and valuable gifts. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and the honouring of participants.

Feedback from the young participants highlighted their enjoyment and the valuable skills they gained. Noor al Maamari expressed her delight in the programme, emphasising the reading and comprehension activities. Sarah al Alawi participated to enhance her skills and enjoyed learning about studio filming techniques.

Mohammed al Maamari appreciated learning about the story of Palestine and the insights gained from visiting the Ministry of Information studios. He valued the knowledge acquired about journalism, photography and interview preparation. Mohammed noted that the programme was an excellent opportunity to develop talents, such as photography, and to learn effective methods for summarising information and answering readers' questions.
