Muscat: The Cultural Library at the General Directorate of Publications and Artistic Works, in collaboration with the Observer newspaper, has launched the second workshop of the “Summer of Talents” programme. This three-day event, featuring twelve children, aims to cultivate various skills and values in young minds. The workshop is conducted by Zainab al Hashimi, Maitha al Mundhiriya, Yaqoob al Balushi, and librarian Warda al Lawati.

The programme's objectives include promoting library usage, encouraging reading, and enhancing children's spiritual, behavioral, scientific, and cultural development.

Activities such as digital drawing, story reading, handicrafts, and scientific experiments are designed to instill values of good citizenship, introduce the concept of Palestine, and provide insights into digital television studios.

Beyond educational activities, the programme emphasises social values like cooperation, time management, recycling, and saving. It aims to discover and nurture children's talents in areas such as radio presentation and reading, providing guidance in selecting appropriate books. Additionally, it offers children a chance to understand their parents' workplaces, broadening their horizons and satisfying their curiosity about their guardians' professions.

Al Lawati highlighted that the summer educational programme spans three months—June, July, and August—each targeting different age groups. Children will explore television and radio studios, electronic games, and the significance of saving.

The first day of the workshop featured Zainab al Hishami introducing children to the Ain electronic platform through interactive presentations and audiobooks, focusing on content for young audiences.

The children engaged in competitions about children's programs and learned the basics of simplified graphic design. They participated in a puzzle activity and watched an episode of "Wissam's Trips," providing feedback and suggestions for future episodes. Booklets from the Wissam's Trips series were distributed to the participants as well.

Overall, the “Summer of Talents” programme offers a blend of educational, cultural, and entertaining activities that foster reading habits and develop children's skills in a fun and engaging manner.
