SALALAH: The National Employment Programme, in partnership with various government and private institutions, has conducted a vital workshop aimed at improving the efficiency of air freight for fish and food products at Salalah Airport in the Dhofar Governorate.

This initiative is part of the broader effort to implement executive plans by employment governance committees in the agricultural, fisheries, water resources, transportation, and logistics sectors.

The workshop addressed several critical topics, starting with an in-depth analysis of the current state of air freight and food export. It culminated in a focused discussion on the logistics of shipping refrigerated fish from Oman via airports. The session included practical proposals to invigorate food and fish exports, interactive discussions to identify challenges and potential solutions, and an emphasis on the support needed for this crucial sector.

The primary goal of the workshop was to foster consensus among the relevant stakeholders and enhance cooperation between air transport companies. This collaboration is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of air shipping for fish and boost Omani exports to global markets.

This initiative represents an essential step in a long-term strategy to enhance infrastructure and develop logistics services at Salalah Airport, aligning with Oman Vision 2040. This vision aims to position Oman as a global logistics centre.

The anticipated outcomes of these efforts include a substantial increase in fish exports, the creation of new job opportunities, and strengthened connectivity between various transportation modes. This will link the food security sector with the transport and logistics sector, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of exported products to markets.

The workshop was a collaborative endeavour involving the National Employment Programme, the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and the National Investment and Export Development Programme “Nazdaher.” The aim is to leverage the advanced infrastructure of Oman’s logistics sector, facilitate fish and food exports, and explore employment opportunities for Omani youth.
