MUSCAT: The Oman Crafts Exhibition will be launched today at the Scientific College of Design in Muscat Governorate. The exhibition will run from July 15 to 17 with a vision to develop and market entrepreneurs' products to meet market demands.

Halima bint Rashid al Zaria, Chairwoman of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, will inaugurate the event that will feature approximately 20 entrepreneurs and craftsmen from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. There will be a completion and the winners will be announced on July 28.

For the first time, the exhibition will host an introductory session on the “Innovative Tourism Craft Product” competition. This competition is open to all college and university students, as well as individuals interested in the craft sector.

Participants can enter as individuals or groups. The presented products must be new, innovative, and touristic, not available on the market, and include a five-minute demonstration with no more than five presentation slides.

Roaa Abdulaziz al Zadjali, Director of the Craft Industries Department, explained that participants will be evaluated on several criteria, including the excellence and innovation of their ideas, manufacturing precision, design aesthetics, consumer usefulness, suitability for daily use, and adherence to Omani traditions with a modern touch. The use of environment friendly materials and sustainable manufacturing techniques is essential, and the marketing plan must be clear and feasible.

The exhibition aims to support entrepreneurs and craftsmen by enhancing their skills and knowledge, enabling them to work on their projects efficiently and effectively. It also seeks to create marketing opportunities, introduce innovative craft products, and establish mechanisms to develop and protect traditional crafts.
