Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, received a phone call from Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas, on Saturday evening.

The two sides discussed the recent Israeli airstrikes targeting civilians in the al Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds, including women, children, and the elderly.

The conversation also addressed ongoing negotiations between the Gaza cease-fire mediators, including

United Nations, Qatar, and Egypt, aimed to facilitate the exchange of prisoners and detainees.

Al Busaidi reiterated the Sultanate of Oman’s firm support for the Palestinian cause, urging the international community to take decisive action against the ongoing Israeli violations and crimes. He emphasised the necessity for immediate international intervention to protect civilians and provide essential humanitarian and relief aid.

On his part, Ismail Haniyeh expressed his gratitude for Oman's steadfast support of the Palestinian cause. He highlighted the importance of continuous communication and constructive dialogue to strengthen international efforts to implement relevant resolutions. Haniyeh also confirmed that the Hamas leadership has approved the United States' proposed ceasefire draft and responded positively to the mediation efforts by Qatar and Egypt.

This call reflects Oman's active role in seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict and underscores the critical need for international collaboration to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
