MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman saw a 1.4 per cent increase in total electricity production, reaching 11,196 gigawatts per hour by the end of April 2024, compared to 11,036.5 gigawatts per hour during the same period in 2023.


Preliminary statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information highlighted that the governorates of North and South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah collectively produced 6,790.2 gigawatts per hour.


In Muscat Governorate, electricity production decreased by 0.9 per cent, totaling 36.6 gigawatts per hour. Conversely, Dhofar Governorate experienced a significant increase of 19 per cent, reaching 1,618.8 gigawatts per hour.

North and South Al Sharqiyah Governorates also saw an increase in electricity production by 4 per cent, amounting to 2,586.9 gigawatts per hour. However, Al Wusta Governorate experienced a decrease of 41.8 per cent, producing only 44 gigawatts per hour.


In Musandam Governorate, production increased by 5.2 per cent, totaling 109.9 gigawatts per hour.


Overall, Oman's net electricity production until the end of April 2024 increased by 1.3 per cent, reaching 10,825.7 gigawatts per hour.


Regarding water production, the Sultanate produced approximately 163.3 million cubic metres of water by the end of April 2024, a slight decrease from 164.9 million cubic metres in the same period of 2023. Muscat and Dhofar governorates recorded increases in water production by 5.6 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively. - ONA
