MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Omani Association for Elderly Health, organised an awareness seminar titled 'Elderly Abuse' at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Bausher, Muscat Governorate.


Held in observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, the symposium aimed to educate community members and healthcare professionals on identifying and preventing elderly abuse.


Key topics included types of abuse, medical neglect, legal protections, and social rights of the elderly.

The event, attended by 70 healthcare professionals from across Oman, also featured real-life stories and concluded with recommendations for national strategies and specialised training programmes.


The symposium concluded its sessions with recommendations, including focusing on the importance of developing national strategies for the elderly, including the existence of a law for the elderly and specialised training programmes and courses for the elderly and care for health workers and caregivers.


Dr Rawhiya bint Rashid Al Khaifi, member of the State Council, presided over the ceremony, honoring lecturers and participants alike. - ONA
