Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman reported an increase in the number of inbound and outbound passengers from the Republic of Sudan.
The number of Sudanese nationals entering the nation in March 2024 was 16,015, up 569 percent from 2,395 in March 2023, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The number of outbound passengers from Sudan also increased by 304 percent, from 1,734 in March 2023 to 7,014 in March 2024.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) recently issued approval for Sudanese Tarco Airlines to operate three flights per week between Muscat and Port Sudan, from June 19.
In December 2023, Muscat International Airport welcomed the first flight of Badr Airlines from Port Sudan International Airport, which operates two weekly flights between the two cities.
Badr Airlines is based in Khartoum, Sudan, operating cargo and passenger air services for humanitarian aid missions and chartered VIP flights. Its main base is Khartoum International Airport.
Apart from Muscat, the airline operates regular flights to Dubai, Cairo, Jeddah, Istanbul, Riyadh, Adis Ababa and Riyadh.
Among other nationalities, inbound passengers from Bangladesh dropped by 53.9 percent.
while there was an increase of 46.8 percent from Iran, 3.7 percent from Egypt, 6.3 percent from India, and 5.3 percent from Pakistan.
