Muscat: A campaign was launched to remove mesquite and other invasive tree species in the Wilayat of Masirah. It was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, under the auspices of Shaikh Abdulhamid bin Ali bin Hamdan al Abri, Deputy Wali of the Wilayat of Masirah, in the presence of MoAFWR officials.


Hilal bin Rashid al Sunaidy, Director of MoAFWR in the Wilayat of Masirah, said this campaign will take several days supported by many governmental, military and private agencies.

The inauguration included a speech by Mohammed al Alawi, Assistant Director-General of MoAFWR, and two lectures; mesquite damage to the environment presented by Majid al Araimi from the Environment Centre in the Wilayat of Masirah, and mesquite trees and the ministry’s role in combating them presented by Abdulaziz al Marzouqi of MoAFWR.
