

MUSCAT: The World Environment Day was celebrated by the Muscat Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Youth Movement on June 7 with various programmes at the Ruwi St Thomas parish.
As part of the Environment Day celebration, activities included the distribution of saplings, tree planting, an art exhibition, and an essay competition involving the parishioners.
A public meeting was presided over by the parish vicar-in-charge, Fr Abey Chacko. Selvi Sumesh, a teacher and environmental activist, delivered the Environment Day message where she emphasized the moral responsibility of the current generation to protect the environment for future generations.
Suni Shyam, a young farmer and admin, of Oman Agriculture Group, delivered a talk on the importance of agriculture and how to create a model farm garden.
This year’s Environment Day slogan, marking half a century since the inception of World Environment Day, was ‘Ecosystem Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Prevention.’
