MUSCAT: The food security index in the Sultanate of Oman for 2022 improved with an increase in food availability indicators by 7 points, and in sustainability and adaptation indicators by 8.4 points.


The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources pays special attention to the food safety and quality system, as it was keen to provide all the capabilities that contribute to its development, through the strategic goal of ensuring the safety and quality of food in accordance with controls and legislation and following up on their implementation.


This interest was represented by issuing regulations, legislation and laws regulating the safety and quality of food and supervising their implementation in partnership with the relevant authorities, most notably the Oman Food Safety Law. The Food Safety and Quality Centre also prepares, updates and adopts regulations and technical specifications for food products, as 7 draft specifications and regulations have been prepared. Gulf technical, and reviewing 120 draft technical regulations and national and Gulf specifications between 2022 and 2023 AD.


The Ministry, represented by the Food Safety and Quality Centre, is keen to follow developments and changes related to food safety and quality at the local and international levels through official channels and sources, such as following up on food production sources (food establishments), monitoring and inspecting food products, matching laboratory reports and explanatory data, and following up on products in local markets.
