The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, announced its membership in the International Transport Forum (ITF) last week.

The announcement was made during the International Transport Forum held on Thursday in Leipzig, Germany. Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, stated that the Sultanate's membership in the forum is part of the ministry's efforts to maximise Oman's strategic position in enhancing the transport system both locally and globally. It also reflects the ministry's commitment to international cooperation in finding successful solutions to various challenges facing the transport and logistics sector.

Al Shammakhi added, "Through this membership, the ministry will seek to benefit from global expertise in policy-making and the employment of technology and innovation in all modes of transport, including green mobility, to serve its efforts in regulating the transport sector, enacting local legislation, and achieving the ministry's strategic projects in line with Oman Vision 2040."

Founded in 1953, the ITF is the only organisation that deals with all modes and means of transport globally, focusing on policies and initiatives that enhance the role of transport and mobility in driving the national economy of member states.
