Oman and Jordan share a fraternal relationship that binds the two brotherly countries based on trust, welfare of people and peaceful coexistence under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein.

This constitutes a unique model of solid brotherhood based on respect and understanding and the convergence of points of view on all issues of the region and the challenges it faces.

During his first state visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan which begins on Wednesday, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik is expected to discuss with King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein regional and international issues, especially the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

Oman and Jordan have been stressing the centrality of the Palestinian issue and the need to reach a just solution to it that ends the occupation and fulfills all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, on the basis of the two-state solution.

It may be recalled that the Jordan King visited the Sultanate of Oman in October 2022 during which both sides reiterated their keenness on strengthening joint investment in different fields, such as industry, mining, labour, competition protection, prohibition of monopoly, archiving, higher education, scholarly research, innovation, consumer protection, tourism and insurance.

Both sides laid emphasis on the genuineness of the Palestinian cause and the need to reach a fair and final settlement to the issue in a manner that meets all legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, based on the two-state solution, which provides for the establishment of a sovereign, independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital based on charters of international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.

The relations between Oman and Jordan have been characterised by consensus on crucial issues of concern and both countries agree that peace is the only way to resolve differences in the region, and that working to stimulate this to maintain stability is a strategic goal and an opportunity for future generations in accordance with international resolutions.

There has been continuous communication through a series of meetings aimed at strengthening trade and economic relations after the formation of Jordanian-Omani working group to explore investment opportunities and economic cooperation.

It may be noted that the number of Omani tourists who visited Jordan in 2023 was 21,738, and in the first quarter of this year it was 6,757.

The National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicates that the volume of trade exchange between Oman and Jordan witnessed a 25 per cent growth in 2023.

Omani exports to Jordan during 2023 increased by 28.2 per cent, to exceed RO 43,850,000, compared to more than RO 34,208,000 in 2022, while the total value of Oman’s imports from Jordan in 2023 amounted to about RO 27, 517,500, an increase of 41.5 per cent compared to 2022, which amounted to more than RO 19,441,300.

Preliminary statistics show that the value of direct investments from Jordan in Oman amounted to about RO 241,800,000 at the end of last year.
