NIZWA: Don't be surprised if you find water bottles thrown in the garbage without caps in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Students collected these caps for a competition launched by Ihsaan Foundation to raise environment awareness among people. It engaged nearly 8,000 boys and girls from 196 schools across wilayats.
Those who collected 5,000 caps got prizes. These caps will be handed over to recyclers for money, which will be used for buying medical devices for the elderly in Nizwa hospital. This competition was launched by Ihsaan Foundation to raise environment awareness among students. It engaged nearly 8,000 boys and girls from 196 schools across wilayats.
Samira bint Salim bin Said Ambusaidiyah of Ihssan Association said: “The response to the competition was beyond our expectations. This is a clear indication of the ability of young people to bring about change. The collection of 50 million water bottle caps underscores the importance of cooperation and social solidarity. The competition was not just an opportunity to win prizes but rather a platform to build environmental awareness for school students and enhance a sense of responsibility towards the environment and society.”
Marwa bint Khamis al Abriyah, member of the Student Environmental Council, says: “This competition contributes to reducing the harm caused by plastic to the environment because these plastic covers are very small and difficult to decompose. We collect them and deliver them to companies that recycle plastic materials such as Bea’h. We use the revenue from these plastic covers to help patients in hospitals.”
The closing ceremony of the “Ihsaan: Friend of the Environment” competition was held on Sunday in the presence of Abdulrahman bin Sulaiman al Shehhi, Director-General of the General Directorate of Social Development in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, at the Training and Studies Center at Nizwa Hospital.
Prizes were distributed to all participants including two tickets to Umrah, hotel packages, gold, bicycles, e-scooter and iPad.
Office bearers of Ihsaan Association said people are still continuing to collect water plastic caps voluntarily, in support of Nizwa Hospital and promoting environmental awareness, which reflects their true commitment to protecting the environment and society. They said Ihsaan is planning the next stage which may include collecting paper and plastic bottles.
