The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) will open its branch in Musandam Governorate today, Thursday, under the auspices of Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, within the framework of plans to develop Musandam Governorate to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.


The government seek to develop various governorates and emphasis for great economic diversification based on the competitive capabilities that the governorate possesses as well as keeping in line with Oman Vision 2040 in its priority for education, learning, scientific research and national capabilities that would contribute to supporting the process of development of technical and applied education.


Being one of the important higher education systems in the Sultanate of Oman, UTAS contributes to preparing and qualifying national cadres with quality and efficiency in which are compatible with the needs of the labour market.


The establishing a branch of the university in Musandam as is the first branch of a government university in the governorate to serve the people of the governorate in particular and the rest of the governorates, and to provide a sustainable educational environment that contributes to the development of various sectors, is an important pillar due to its presence in a strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz.


In addition to the development of the economic and tourism in the governorate and the provision of a suitable environment for learning and scientific research, the branch had received approximately 150 students from the first batch to study during the second semester of the academic year 2023/2024 in a number of specialisations.
