The relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Kuwait are characterised by sincere brotherhood and cooperation. The highlight of Oman-Kuwait relations is the keen sense of brotherhood and mutual respect shown by the leaderships and people of both countries.

There is no doubt that these relations will become stronger and usher in a new era with the visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Kuwait on Monday, as the visit represents an affirmation of the depth of ties between the leadership of the two brotherly countries and their people.

The discussion is expected to focus on ways of expanding frameworks to support and enhance the progress of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the most prominent issues of common interest, and the latest regional and international developments.

The Omani-Kuwaiti Joint Committee contributed to expanding the scope of cooperation between the two sister countries in many fields of economics, trade, education, scientific research, youth, civil service, environment, and other various development fields. It also created trade and investment exchange, as represented by the signing of many agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields.

In addition to the joint cooperation, there is direct coordination at the highest level between the two sides in multiple fields, including at the level of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, where citizens are treated. Each Gulf country treats the citizens of that country with regard to education, healthcare, ownership, and transportation.

The evolving economic and trade relationship between Oman and Kuwait reflects their shared commitment to fostering growth and prosperity for both nations.

The largest energy project in the region, the Duqm Refinery Project, a joint venture equally shared between Oman and Kuwait, exemplifies the depth of the fraternal relations between the two countries.

The project aligns with Oman’s strategy to enhance the value of oil and gas by converting crude oil into fuel products and petrochemical materials, boosting exports, and balancing payments.

The depth of the trade ties is evident from the keenness shown by the private sectors in the two countries to establish more partnerships, particularly through small and medium-sized enterprises, in line with the visions of Oman and Kuwait.

When it comes to resolving regional or international crises and disputes, the leadership adopts a very diplomatic approach by respecting the sovereignty and independence of the states involved and adhering to the rules of law and international conventions.

The two countries also shared similar visions and goals. The two countries work together towards the realisation of a two-pronged approach to development based on Oman Vision 2040 and Kuwait Plan 2035.

The Oman Vision 2040 is its gateway to overcome challenges, keep pace with regional and global changes, generate and seize opportunities to foster economic competitiveness and social well-being, stimulate growth, and build confidence in all economic, social, and developmental relations nationwide.

With Kuwait Plan 2035, the Kuwaiti leadership aims to transform Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub for the region by the year 2035. To achieve this, the new national development agenda seeks enhanced competitiveness, increased productivity of the workforce, and reform of the oil-based political economy towards a knowledge economy driven by the private sector.
