The continuation of the dangerous escalation in violence, the policy of collective punishment and the grave violations of international law and international humanitarian law carried out by the Israeli occupation forces in their brutal war against the Gaza Strip constitute war crimes.

On Tuesday, the Sultanate of Oman expressed deep concern over Israeli forces’ continued military escalation, war crimes and genocide against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

These actions of the Israeli occupation forces are crimes against humanity and are contrary to international law and international humanitarian laws and standards.

The consequences of the military ground operations that the Israeli occupation army are carrying out threaten catastrophic effects on the region and the world, as well as on the chances of achieving peace and stability.

The international community has to intervene immediately to put an end to the war and to the ongoing Israeli violations in order to spare the blood of innocent people and to make sure necessary humanitarian aid is delivered to civilians as soon as possible.

Indeed, the action of Israeli occupation forces storming the city of Rafah portends serious catastrophic impacts that may expand the conflict and tension further.

The international community needs to immediately intervene to stop the war and terminate the ongoing Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law. Israel needs to be fully responsible for such violations, war crimes, and the policy of starvation and forced expulsion of citizens.

In this regard, the international community must assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, calling on it to exert efforts towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital because these brutal actions represent ‘stark crimes against humanity’.

The international community needs to meet its commitments to the Palestinian people and quickly reach ‘radical solutions to achieve the people’s hopes in establishing their own independent state so that peace can prevail in not only in Palestine but also in the region and security and safety can prevail in the world.

Oman’s dedication to political solutions and adherence to international law needs international intervention and such violence would never provide a solution to the Palestinian or Arab-Israeli conflicts without political dialogue and a strong commitment to peace.

An immediate ceasefire, the establishment of a monitored truce by UN observers, and the development of plans to provide humanitarian aid directly and immediately to the Gaza Strip is urgently needed.
