Sayyid Badr, Head of Hamas Political Bureau discuss ceasefire proposal

Muscat: Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, discussed a ceasefire proposal during a phone call on Tuesday with Dr Ismail Haniyeh, Head of Hamas Movement’s Political Bureau.


During the conversation, Haniyeh affirmed the movement’s acceptance of the proposal and the Palestinian side’s support for the proposal in a bid to ease tensions, stop the bloodshed and mutual military operations and secure the return of displaced people to their residences.


The proposal also provides for the release of prisoners and detainees in interrelated stages, the application of binding measures and the realization of other commitments pledged by both sides, including lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip and allowing the supply of humanitarian and relief aid to the population there.


Sayyid Badr welcomed the accord of the proposal and expressed Oman’s appreciation for efforts exerted by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar in cooperation with the US administration.


For his part, Dr Ismail Haniyeh expressed his thanks and appreciation for the Sultanate of Oman’s support for the just Palestinian cause. He stressed the importance of continuous communication, constructive dialogue and international efforts to implement resolutions of international legitimacy.
