CAIRO: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by State Audit Institution (SAI), participated in the Arab Forum 'Strengthening Anti-Corruption Efforts: Reality and Challenges', organised by the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt.

The forum saw wide international participation from anti-corruption agencies of the States parties to the Convention, in addition to representatives of Supreme Audit and Accounting Institutions, international organisations, civil society institutions, universities and professional institutions.

Oman’s delegation in the forum was headed by Shaikh Ghuson bin Hilal al Alawi, Chairman of State Audit Institution.

The forum’s programme included three main sessions. The first session reviewed the impact of implementing national anti-corruption strategies aimed at enhancing dialogue and cooperation between different relevant parties in Arab States to exchange views on the challenges facing the States parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention in evaluating the impact of national strategies to prevent and combat corruption.

Moreover, the session reviewed the possible responses from an international perspective and benefiting from relevant comparative experiences in Arab and foreign States.

The second session of the Forum, titled 'The Use of Technology in Preventing and Combating Corruption', addressed the role and importance of technology in reporting corruption, research and investigation of corruption crimes. The session also reviewed the importance of digitisation in improving services provided to citizens and facilitating State oversight as well as ensuring the integrity of providing service and benefiting from them.

The third and final session of the Arab Forum shed light on the aspects of strengthening the role of the private sector in combating corruption in Arab States, by reviewing the role of the State in engaging the private sector in the fight against corruption and discussing the challenges encountered by governments to stimulate and evaluate companies' anti-corruption compliance programmes. Furthermore, the session reviewed good practices in providing effective incentives to support the efforts exerted by the private sector in this regard, and its role in establishing sustainable business environments. — ONA
