Muscat: Creative Industries Forum, organised by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, kicked off on Sunday at Bait Al Zubair Museum under the patronage of His Highness Dr Adham bin Turki al Said.

The two-day forum, which will conclude today (Monday), aims at strengthening and building Omani capabilities in the cultural and creative industries, and contributing to the industry sector.

Dr Fatima al Amriyah, Dean of the College of Creative Industries, said, "Organising such forum for creative industries aims to encourage cooperation and exchange of ideas between professionals and students to develop industries and enhance their role in the economy and society. The forum comes as a bridge linking theoretical knowledge and practical opportunities in the world. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the next generation of creative professionals and ensuring that their talents are recognised, celebrated, and integrated into society.

The forum hosts a number of college graduates and entrepreneurs in the field of creative industries to showcase their success stories to motivate students to continue education and self-development by exploring global trends in creative societies, and to create channels for acquaintance and mingling between college students and employees in the various specialists.

"The Sultanate of Oman is clearly interested in culture and creativity, which has emerged in allocating an integrated axis to the creative and cultural industries as one of the axes of the cultural strategy 2021-2040 emanating from the priority of citizenship, identity, heritage and culture in the Oman Vision 2040," Dr Fatima said.

Work is still underway to measure the economic dimension of these industries and the extent of their contribution to the local product and understanding the reality of the creative industries, their challenges, and opportunities for development and investment economically and socially.

The university seeks to contribute to building these national capabilities in the cultural and creative industries in order to achieve its role as one of the most important tributaries of higher education in Oman.

It also seeks to offer pioneering programmes in various fields of creative industries, such as photography, design, journalism, digital media and advertising to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for the global knowledge economy based on creativity.
