MUSCAT: Oman volleyball team will commence their campaign in the West Asian U-18 qualifiers, which will be hosted by Muscat during May 10 to 12, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


The opening day will witness two matches, Oman will take Jordan at 7:30 pm (Muscat time), Lebanon will face Saudi Arabia at 5:00 pm.


The Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) is fully set to organize this West Asian event in Muscat, after they completed all the technical and logistics preparations. Four teams will vie for direct tickets from West Asian zone to the Asian event including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Oman. This even in Muscat will serve as qualifiers for the 15th Asian Men’s U-18 Volleyball Championship which will take place in Bahrain at Manama City during July 28 to August 4.

Oman U-18 volleyball team will meet Lebanon in the following match which will be held on Saturday and they will conclude their qualifiers games against Saudi Arabia in a tight match. Oman team, coached by Islam Mohammed, is underway in their training sessions after they have completed their participation in the last GCC Youth Games, which concluded recently in UAE.


Oman volleyball team will aim for better show than the Gulf event as they could not end their participation with a medal after suffering five defeats. Oman national junior bikers will eye to reach the Asian event for the first time in history with its team that is comprised of many potential players who can deliver top technical performance.


The team raised their readiness level in these days as they will begin their actions soon in the West Asian assignment. Oman players will receive the right support from national team fans as the event will be hosted in Muscat. During the last month, the national U-18 volleyball team went in a joint camp with the national senior volleyball team in Suhar. The camp had featured from several training sessions and some warm up matches against the senior team.
